History repeating

Listening to The Aloof as I write this, song called Religion. It has very simple but true lyrics about religion being one of the main causes of war and the dangers of fanaticism. It was released in 1994 and I'm sure it was criticised for being overtly political or simplistic at the time but now it seems preternaturally prescient. It's similar to the feeling I get when I watch Bill Hicks doing material about the Gulf War, a President called Bush, and soldiers in "Hog heaven" playing with their new technology. I suppose we are doomed to repeat our mistakes ad nauseum and the only thing that changes is the efficiency with which we can kill each other. There's your happy thought for today.
